Touting her campaign promises kept, Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune encouraged Myrtle Beach City Council and staff to hire a new Child Transgender Diversity Chief in August.
On the campaign trail last year, Bethune stated emphatically that little boys and little girls should be allowed to pick the gender of their choice.
“Forget the downtown crime, the empty buildings, the homeless,” said Bethune. “This is the most pressing issue of our time.”
After a long and exhaustive search, the city announced the hiring of Kumu Hina. Hina previously served as a Hawaiian Transgender Teacher & Community Leader. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Hawaiian Studies and Information.
Her job will pay $650,000 annually plus car expenses and health care allowances, according to officials at the city. The new hire’s salary will be covered by an additional 1% mid tax charged to downtown merchants.
“Hina brings tons of experience to the position,” stated Bethune. “Among her first assignments will be to take our entire staff of 900 city employees through Child Transgender sensitivity training.“
Hina’s pronouns are “it” and “whatever”.
“With 0.6% of Americans ages 13 to 90 identifying as Transgender, I am proud our city is taking the lead on this most pressing issue,” said Bethune.
Only 99.4% of Americans identify as non transgender.
