Mayor Brenda Bethune announced this week that she has been in private discussions with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping about selling the City of Myrtle Beach.
“We held talks, but they are only preliminary at this time,” said Bethune. “One of the key concerns I personally have is all of these Horry County conservatives calling the Chinese communists! They hold most of the same top down values that I personally hold, as well as, most of the council staff here in Myrtle Beach.”
“Communists, my backside,” said Bethune. “That’s just right wing fake news nonsense. I have personally learned a lot from the Chinese government.”
The City of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce are already familiar with these international negotiations.
Several years ago, former Mayor John Rhodes met with the Chinese on behalf of several business leaders in a successful attempt to unload $350 million in toxic golf course assetts.
“That deal worked out great,” said Bethune. “Perhaps its time we went back to the Chinese well once again.“
The Mayor did not discuss the purchase price for buying the city, however, previous sales like the huge discount given to the Ponderosa Group at PirateLand Camping Resort are indications of just how tough this city can negotiate.
