Sand In Your Shoes

We have a saying down here that once you fall head-over-toe-ring for the beach, you will forever have “sand in your shoes.” It’s that longing that never goes away, like when you get back home and start unpacking and feel the grit of sand still stuck to your flip-flop or discover a tiny shell imbedded in the heel of a walking shoe. All of a sudden you’re back to the blue Atlantic, standing in the surf, sea
foam swirling around your ankles, the smell of coconut lotion in the air. If you’re lucky enough to have “sand in your shoes” you never really, ever, leave the beach, do you?
