Myrtle Beach Gets Another Baseball Team

Elissa Jarvis, Lead Reporter Sunday, February 05, 2012

Love the Myrtle Beach Pelicans? Well Myrtle Beach is getting a second baseball team, on TV that is. Hit TV Show Eastbound & Down has set their upcoming third season in Myrtle Beach. The show follows former Major League Baseball player Kenny Powers as he tries to climb his way back up to the top.  Season three, which premiers on Sunday February 19th, has Kenny Powers playing minor league ball right here in Myrtle Beach but for the Myrtle Beach Mermen, not the Pelicans.

Fans of the show have already taken off with the Myrtle Beach Mermen theme, creating facebook pages and designing t-shirts. The show was here in Myrtle Beach early last July filming scenes and getting area shots to use in the TV show. They actually filmed scenes at BB&T Coastal Field, giving the Mermen an official looking feel.

So who’s getting a mermen t-shirt?
