The Dumbing Down of America?
Elissa Jarvis, Lead Reporter Thursday, December 01, 2011

Have you seen the most recent cover of Time Magazine? Have you seen the cover for the same issue in the rest of the world?
It has recently come to light that Time Magazine runs very different covers in the rest of the world than the do in America. You can see the magazine covers for yourself here. The most recent American issue runs with the cover story “Why anxiety is good for you.” In contrast the cover in the rest of the world is running with a story about revolutions in the Middle East. Why are they doing this? Is it because Time believes Americans simply don’t care about the rest of the world? And are they right?
Is this our fault? Americans, in general, have a very small world view. The sun rises and sets on the good ole’ USA. Very few of my friends can tell me anything about foreign policy in other countries. Most of them can’t even name our Vice President let alone the Prime Minister of Great Britain or the Chancellor of Germany.
Are we dumbing ourselves down so much that we are out of touch with what’s going on in the rest of the world?
