Extreme Couponing: Genius or Crazy?

Elissa Jarvis, Lead Reporter Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Extreme Couponing has become all the rage after it was immortalized on the TLC show of the same name. But is extreme couponing genius or just plain crazy?

We’ve all gotten behind someone at the checkout stand at a grocery story who has 8 million coupons. If you are like me, you probably roll your eyes and find a magazine to flip through because it’s going to be awhile. But did you ever stop to think how much money these people were saving with all those coupons? A friend of mine does extreme couponing, getting two or three papers on Sundays just for the coupons, but she saves a ton of money. But when she shows me the receipts for the food, she’s gotten 4 packages of hot dogs, a ton of canned goods, 3 boxes of crackers, 2 bags of M&M and only paid 15 bucks for it all. I can’t deny it saves her a ton of money and she’ll never run out of food. She’s even turned it into a business; she charges people a nominal fee and she’ll teach you how to coupon.

So extreme couponing: genius or crazy?
