Are We Obsessed With Vampires?

Every time I turn on the TV I find a new show or movie that is about vampires. With the sheer volume of vampires in the media it makes me wonder, are we obsessed with them?
Twilight Breaking Dawn part 1 opened in theaters last night to throngs of screaming fans. It’s just the latest in a long line of vampire media in the last decade. I grew up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Ann Rice novels and the Blade movies. Now there is the Twilight series, True Blood, the Vampire Diaries, the Underworld movies and the list goes on and on. Vampires have taken over media in a huge way. There are countless human/vampire forbidden love triangles now and don’t forget that werewolves are a big part of that.
So are we obsessed with vampires? And what’s your favorite vampire themed TV/movie?
