Mande Wilkes: Not Your Usual Congressional Hopeful

Elissa Jarvis, Lead Reporter Friday, November 04, 2011

One look at Mande Wilkes and you can tell she isn’t your normal Congressional hopeful. For starters: she’s young, female and pretty. She doesn’t back down from that either. She states that being pretty is “the real glass ceiling in politics, and the reason that the likes of Hillary Clinton, Michele Bachmann, and Sarah Palin will never be elected president or even vice president.”(1)

That doesn’t seem to scare Mande. She’s ready to take on the task of Congress: “I’ll walk in the Capitol with my big provocative ideas about tiny government and I’ll stop D.C. in its tracks. Those boys won’t know what him ‘em.’” Mande recently threw her hat into the ring for the newly created Pee Dee 7th Congressional seat. While the election is still a year away, the campaigning begins now. Mande is not trying to reinvent the wheel; she sticks with the traditional Republican values: “I’ll fight to shrink government so that we can return to the back-to-basics conservative value of self-governance.” But she believes in standing up for the little guy too saying, “I also find value in some traditionally “leftist” ideals. In particular, I’m referring to the value in caring for those who struggle to care for themselves, including the poor, the elderly, and the ill.”(2)

Furthermore, Mande is committed to honoring a budget. She pledges to “match every single tax cut with a corresponding budget cut.” She also promises to limit herself to two terms in office.
