Finding Home
David Hucks Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Every Summer my family comes down for a visit. Three generations get together for a week of surf, sunshine, and catching up from where we previously left off. The kids are always a foot taller and the adults are often at a different place in life. This year they are renting a beach home in Garden City Beach, which is just a few minutes south of Myrtle Beach.

Some members of my family can drive as much as 5 hours to find home. As a young man, home was a place I couldn't wait until I was just old enough to get away from.
My friends and I spent the largest part of our early adulthood trying to figure out just what home meant for each of us. Whatever it was, we knew it wasn't the home we grew up in! That's what we told ourselves.
Funny thing, as we each made our way out into the world, every one of us had to make peace with home and find a place for it inside. I believe our Spirits are wiser than we are. It seems there is a constant ache in every living soul. Until we truly find it, I think we are all searching for home.
For me, it is the sun, the salt, the sea and my favorite beach chair with my friends and family all around.
Hope to see you on the beach very soon.
